An Epic Summer Pictured Rocks Elopement with a Lake Jump | Katie & Jose

If you’ve ever wondered what a Pictured Rocks summer elopement actually looks like, let Katie and Jose’s day set the standard. June in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula brings long daylight hours, towering green trees, and—if you’re lucky—the most breathtaking sunset you’ve ever laid eyes on. Their day was the definition of an intentional, adventure-filled experience from start to finish.

A Private Beach Ceremony

The day started with absolute tranquility. Katie and Jose exchanged their vows on a quiet stretch of the shoreline with a secluded part of the beach completely to themselves. With the dramatic Pictured Rocks cliffs in the distance and the gentle sound of Lake Superior providing a natural soundtrack, they made their commitment official in the most intimate way possible.

First Dances & UP Mosquitoes

After the ceremony, they shared their first dance right on the sand to the rhythm of the waves. Of course, no true June adventure in the UP is complete without a few uninvited guests—and yes, we all laughed (and swatted) our way through the relentless UP mosquitoes! Katie and Jose didn’t let a few bugs phase them for a second, keeping the focus entirely on each other and the joy of the day.

A Sunset Picnic & Homemade Cake

As evening approached, they slowed things down with a gorgeous sunset picnic. The highlight? A stunning, custom cake that Katie made completely by herself! Sharing a slice of cake on the beach as the warm summer light started to shift set the stage for what came next.

The Most Breathtaking Sunset in the UP

We have photographed countless summer evenings across the Upper Peninsula, but the sunset during Katie and Jose’s Pictured Rocks summer elopement was hands down the most breathtaking we have ever witnessed. The colors exploded across the sky, the light felt cinematic, and the stillness of the water made it feel like the entire world had paused just for them.

Ending the Night with a Lake Jump

To top off an already legendary day, Katie and Jose decided to celebrate the only way an adventurous couple could: by running straight into Lake Superior and jumping in together!

Katie and Jose, thank you for trusting us to capture your wild, joyful, and deeply intentional day. It was an absolute honor to be part of your story!

Here’s what Katie & Jose said about working with us for their elopement:

“Brittany and Jake are absolutely phenomenal! We eloped at sunset in Pictured Rocks and they helped us choose a location and make sure we had everything we needed, like the permit. It was a seamless experience leading up to the elopement and throughout the wedding day.

They were so kind and fun to chat with as we walked down the trails at pictured rocks. They made us feel so comfortable in front of the camera and Brittany gave us great direction for natural poses. Jake was incredibly kind to carry all of our picnic and beach stuff (which was not light!). Since it was just the two of us, we really appreciated that Brittany was able to sign as our officiant and she also took care of asking a passerby to be our second witness, so we didn’t have to worry about that.

We are OBSESSED with the sneak peeks they’ve already shared with us and can’t wait to see the full gallery. Thank you so much Brittany and Jake for an incredible day and stunning photos! We are so lucky and highly recommend them if you are looking to elope!“
